09.2004 // album of the month
from unknown and inside the plastic wrap...this is greg's selection artist // the paper chase album // god bless your black heart discovery // cd-world listening station comments // this underground dallas band has an interesting blend of sounds. perhaps it is best described as disjointed experimental indie rock. sonicly adventurous and bold, this album is conceptually more than the mtv crowd can handle. lyrically there appears to be some real depth, though the vocals are an acquired taste and might make those lyrics less accessible. only time will tell. initial ranking // 7.5 final ranking // 8 final comments // the disjointed nature of the album is what i love. it is so abrasively different from your usual musical fare that i can't help but like it. lyrically it lacks maturity, but i am not yet sure if this is purposely done or not. http://www.thepaperchaseband.com/

It is always refreshing to hear something done a little different. The Paper Chase is a lopsided, art-rock, offbeat album. It almost seems that the music is peiced together as immaturely as the lyrics. Almost like they wrote this in JR High and are just now performing it. Which is definately unique.
Unfortuantely I don't find myself reaching for the album. When a song shows up on my iPod, more often than not, I change the song. I think its because it beats you down after a few listens. Maybe it is more of a mood piece. I'll have to keep trying.
